Your TikTok account may appear to be locked because of a login problem, a security check or a block. What you can do depends on the notification. First take a screenshot and read what TikTok is asking: do you need to confirm who you are, or does TikTok say that you violated a rule? A new password will not lift such a block. A lock is not always temporary either.

Is your TikTok account locked, restricted or blocked?
These terms are often used interchangeably. So look at what no longer works and what the notification says. Having few views on your video is different from being unable to log in.

Suppose you can still log in and view your profile, but cannot send a message. That does not automatically mean your entire account is blocked. Start with the notification about sending messages.

How to check the status of your TikTok account
According to TikTok’s explanation of Account check this check can show restrictions on logging in, posting, comments, profile changes and messages.
Can you still log in? In the app, look for account status or Account check and read your account notifications. The name and location of this check may vary.
Can you no longer log in or cannot find the check? Then start with the notification on the login screen. Write down the following so you have it ready when asking for help:
- The exact text of the error message.
- Your username, including the at sign.
- The date when the problem began.
- What still works and what does not.
- Whether you used a new device or different login details shortly beforehand.
Do you see only a general error message? Check your connection and fully close the app once. A technical error alone does not mean that your account is blocked.
Recover your TikTok account with your email address or phone number
These steps apply to a notification about logging in or your password. They do not lift a block TikTok imposed because TikTok says you violated a rule.
- Choose your original login method. Did you log in with an email address, phone number or linked account? Use the same method as before.
- Use the recovery option you see. Can you reset your password? Enter the email address or phone number linked to your account.
- Check whether you received the code or link. Also check your junk mail. Do not keep requesting a new code while you are still waiting for the previous one.
- Choose a unique password. Use a password that you do not use for your mailbox or another app.
- Observe any stated waiting period. Does the notification ask you to try again later? Wait instead of repeatedly making a new attempt.
No longer have access to your email address or phone number?
First try to recover your mailbox through your email provider. Do you log in with a linked account? If necessary, first recover access to that account through the provider.
If that does not work, or you do not see a recovery option, look in the official app or the TikTok Help Centre for how to report a login problem. Explain how you previously logged in and which email address, number or linked account you can no longer access. Never include your password or verification code.
Your TikTok account is locked because of a security or age check
You suspect that someone else is in your account
Has your email address changed unexpectedly? Or do you see messages that you did not send yourself? Secure your account. If someone may also have access to your mailbox, change that password first. Otherwise, that person could continue reading new recovery messages.
Then recover your TikTok access through the official app or support. Once you are in, check which email address and phone number are linked to your account. Also see whether you can tell which devices are logged in. Remove unknown access if that option is available.
TikTok asks you to confirm your identity or age
Read exactly what the notification requests. A wrong date of birth requires a different solution from a forgotten password. Use the check or appeal option that TikTok offers with the notification.
Send sensitive documents only through an official channel that explicitly requests them. Do not share identification in a public post. Also do not send it to anyone who offers to unlock your account through a private message.
Appealing a blocked TikTok account
TikTok states in its explanation of violations and account blocks that there is an appeal route if you believe your message, video or account was wrongly removed or blocked.
Does the notification mention a strike? This means TikTok has recorded a violation. Read the reason TikTok gives and the consequences. Do not assume that waiting or using a new password will lift the block.
- Save the decision. Take a screenshot showing the reason, date and any appeal deadline.
- Use the appeal option in the notification. Do you not see that option? Mention this in a help request through official support.
- Explain what you believe is incorrect. Address the reason TikTok gives. Provide only information relevant to your situation.
- Save the confirmation. Note any case number. Where possible, add new information to the same help request.
A fictional example of a short appeal response:
My account @voorbeeld was blocked on May 8. The notification gives my age as the reason, but I believe that is incorrect. I want to have my age checked through the official process. How can I do that?

Help with a blocked TikTok account in the Netherlands or Belgium
Are you not receiving a useful response from TikTok? Keep your notification, appeal, confirmations and replies in one folder. Send a short follow up question and include your case number if you have one. Ask why the decision was made and how you can still appeal.

Preventing TikTok account login problems
Can you access your account again? Immediately check whether your account recovery details are still correct.
- Keep your linked email address and phone number up to date.
- Use a unique password. Store it in a password manager, an app that stores your passwords.
- Turn on an extra login check if one is available.
- Do not share codes, passwords or recovery links with others.
- Read a new account notification before trying the same action again.
