Your TikTok account may appear to be locked because of a login problem, a security check or a block. What you can do depends on the message. First take a screenshot and read what TikTok is asking: do you need to confirm who you are, or does TikTok say that you have violated a rule? A new password will not remove such a block. A lock is also not always temporary.

Is your TikTok account locked, restricted or blocked?
These terms are often used interchangeably. Therefore, look at what no longer works and what the message says. Having few views on your video is different from being unable to log in.

Suppose you can still log in and view your profile, but cannot send a message. That does not automatically mean your entire account is blocked. Start with the message about sending messages.

How to check the status of your TikTok account
According to TikTok’s explanation of Account check this check can show restrictions on logging in, posting, comments, profile changes and messages.
Can you still log in? Search the app for account status or Account check and read your account notifications. The name and location of this check may differ.
Can you no longer log in, or cannot find the check? Then start with the message on the login screen. Write down the following so you have it available when asking for help:
- The exact text of the error message.
- Your username, including the @ symbol.
- The date when the problem started.
- What still works and what does not.
- Whether you used a new device or different login details shortly beforehand.
Do you see only a general error message? Check your connection and fully close the app once. A technical error by itself does not mean that your account is blocked.
Recover your TikTok account with your email address or phone number
These steps apply to a message about logging in or your password. They do not remove a block imposed by TikTok because TikTok says you violated a rule.
- Choose your original login method. Did you log in with an email address, phone number or linked account? Use the same method as before.
- Use the recovery option you see. Can you reset your password? Then enter the email address or phone number linked to your account.
- Check whether you received the code or link. Also check your spam folder. Do not repeatedly request a new code while you are still waiting for the previous one.
- Choose a unique password. Use a password that you do not use for your mailbox or another app.
- Observe any stated waiting period. Does the message ask you to try again later? Wait instead of repeatedly making a new attempt.
No longer have access to your email address or phone number?
First try to recover your mailbox through your email provider. Do you log in with a linked account? If necessary, first restore access to that account with the provider.
If that does not work, or you do not see a recovery option, search the official app or the TikTok Help Center for how to report a login problem. Explain how you previously logged in and which email address, number or linked account you no longer have access to. Never send your password or verification code.
Your TikTok account is locked because of a security check or age
You suspect that someone else is in your account
Has your email address changed unexpectedly? Or do you see messages that you did not send yourself? Then secure your account. If someone may also have access to your mailbox, change its password first. Otherwise, that person may continue reading new recovery messages.
Then recover access to your TikTok account through the official app or support. Once you are in, check which email address and phone number are linked to your account. Also see whether you can view which devices are logged in. Remove unknown access if that option is available.
TikTok asks you to confirm your identity or age
Read exactly what the message asks for. A wrong date of birth requires a different solution from a forgotten password. Use the check or appeal option that TikTok offers with the message.
Send sensitive documents only through an official route that explicitly requests them. Do not share an identity document in a public message. Also do not send it to anyone who offers through a private message to unlock your account.
Appealing a blocked TikTok account
TikTok states in its explanation of violations and account blocks that there is an appeal route if you think your message, video or account was removed or blocked incorrectly.
Does the message show a strike? This means that TikTok has recorded a violation. Read the reason TikTok gives and the consequences. Do not assume that waiting or a new password will remove the block.
- Keep the decision. Take a screenshot showing the reason, date and any appeal deadline.
- Use the appeal option in the message. Do you not see that option? Mention this in a support request through official support.
- Explain what you believe is incorrect. Address the reason TikTok gives. Provide only information relevant to your situation.
- Keep the confirmation. Make a note of any case number. Where possible, add new information to the same support request.
A fictional example of a short appeal:
My account @voorbeeld was blocked on 8 May. The message gives my age as the reason, but I believe this is incorrect. I want to have my age checked through the official route. How can I do this?

Are you not getting a useful answer from TikTok? Keep your message, appeal, confirmations and replies in one folder. Send a short follow up question and mention your case number if you have one. Ask why the decision was made and how you can still appeal.

These services will not unlock your account for you. Does the problem have major consequences, for example because of a dispute about a paid service? You can also seek legal advice. Bring your saved messages and write down what happened and on which date.
How to help prevent TikTok login problems
Can you access your account again? Then immediately check whether your account recovery details are still correct.
- Keep your linked email address and phone number up to date.
- Use a unique password. Store it in a password manager, an app that stores your passwords.
- Enable an additional login check if available.
- Do not share codes, passwords or recovery links with others.
- Read a new account notification before trying the same action again.
