Your TikTok account may appear to be locked because of a login issue, a security check or a block. What you can do depends on the notification. First, take a screenshot and read what TikTok is asking: do you need to confirm who you are, or does TikTok say you have breached a rule? A new password will not remove such a block. A lock is not always temporary either.

Is your TikTok account locked, restricted or blocked?
These terms are often used interchangeably. So look at what no longer works and what the notification says. Having few views on your video is different from being unable to log in.

Suppose you can still log in and view your profile, but cannot send a message. That does not automatically mean your entire account is blocked. Start with the notification about sending messages.

How to check the status of your TikTok account
According to TikTok’s explanation of Account check this check can show restrictions on logging in, posting, comments, profile changes and messages.
Can you still log in? Search the app for account status or Account check and read your account notifications. The name and location of this check may vary.
Can you no longer log in, or cannot find the check? Start with the notification on the login screen. Write down the following so you have it ready when requesting help:
- The exact text of the error message.
- Your username, including the @ symbol.
- The date the problem began.
- What still works and what does not.
- Whether you used a new device or different login details shortly beforehand.
Do you only see a general error message? Check your connection and fully close the app once. A technical error by itself does not mean that your account is blocked.
Recovering your TikTok account with your email address or phone number
These steps apply to a notification about logging in or your password. They do not remove a block imposed by TikTok because TikTok says you breached a rule.
- Choose your original login method. Did you log in with an email address, phone number or linked account? Use the same method as before.
- Use the recovery option you see. Can you reset your password? Enter the email address or phone number linked to your account.
- Check whether you received the code or link. Also check your junk mail. Do not keep requesting a new code while you are still waiting for the previous one.
- Choose a unique password. Use a password that you do not use for your mailbox or another app.
- Observe any stated waiting period. Does the notification ask you to try again later? Wait instead of repeatedly trying again.
No longer have access to your email address or phone number?
First, try to recover your mailbox through your email provider. Do you log in with a linked account? If necessary, first recover access to that account through the provider.
If that does not work, or you see no recovery option, search the official app or TikTok Help Centre for how to report a login problem. Explain how you previously logged in and which email address, number or linked account you can no longer access. Never send your password or verification code.
Your TikTok account locked by a security check or age verification
You suspect someone else is in your account
Has your email address changed unexpectedly? Or do you see messages you did not send yourself? Secure your account. If someone may also have access to your mailbox, change that password first. Otherwise, they may continue reading new recovery messages.
Then recover access to your TikTok account through the official app or support. Once you are back in, check which email address and phone number are linked to your account. Also check whether you can see which devices are logged in. Remove unknown access if that option is available.
TikTok asks you to confirm your identity or age
Read exactly what the notification asks. A wrong date of birth requires a different solution from a forgotten password. Use the check or appeal option TikTok offers with the notification.
Only send sensitive documents through an official channel that explicitly requests them. Do not share proof of identity in a public message. Also do not send it to anyone who offers to unlock your account through a private message.
Appealing a blocked TikTok account
TikTok mentions in its explanation of breaches and account blocks an appeal route if you think your message, video or account was wrongly removed or blocked.
Is there a strike in the notification? This means TikTok has recorded a breach. Read the reason TikTok gives and the consequences. Do not assume that waiting or a new password will remove the block.
- Keep the decision. Take a screenshot showing the reason, date and any appeal deadline.
- Use the appeal option in the notification. Do you not see that option? Mention this in a help request through official support.
- Explain what you believe is incorrect. Address the reason TikTok gives. Provide only information relevant to your situation.
- Keep the confirmation. Note any case number. Where possible, add new information to the same help request.
A fictional example of a short appeal response:
My account @voorbeeld was blocked on 8 May. The notification gives my age as the reason, but I believe this is incorrect. I want to have my age checked through the official process. How can I do this?

Help with a blocked TikTok account in the Netherlands or Belgium
Are you not receiving a useful response from TikTok? Keep your notification, appeal, confirmations and replies in one folder. Send a short follow up question and include your case number if you have one. Ask why the decision was made and how you can still appeal.

These services will not unlock your account for you. Does the problem have major consequences, for example because of a dispute about a paid service? You can also seek legal advice. Take your saved messages with you and write down what happened and on which date.
Preventing login problems with your TikTok account
Can you access your account again? Immediately check whether your account recovery details are still correct.
- Keep your linked email address and phone number up to date.
- Use a unique password. Store it in a password manager, an app that stores your passwords.
- Turn on an additional login check if available.
- Do not share codes, passwords or recovery links with others.
- Read a new account notification before trying the same action again.
