You may not see Notes on Instagram because they have expired or were not shared with your account. First, look at the top of your inbox and ask whether someone has shared a recent Note with you. Still don’t see it? Check your app and connection. An empty space does not necessarily mean that Instagram is experiencing an outage.
Follow the steps below for what you are missing: one Note or the entire feature.
Where are Instagram Notes?
According to Meta’s explanation when Notes were introduced Notes appeared at the top of the inbox. They remained visible for 24 hours and were intended for mutual followers or close friends. This may have changed since then.
In the app, open your direct message overview and look at the top. Also check that you are using the correct account. You may have a separate profile for your hobby in addition to your own profile.
Is there nothing there? Ask someone you know whether there is a recent Note that you should be able to see. Without such a Note, it is difficult to check whether anything is missing.
Why can’t I see other people’s Notes?
If you are missing one person’s Note, first check whether it is still visible and was shared with you. Ask them:
- Can you still see your own Note?
- When did you post the Note?
- Which group did you share the Note with, and is my account part of it?
Mutual followers means that you follow each other. Close Friends is a group chosen by the sender. So, following someone does not mean that you can see every Note from that person.
A fictional example: your sister tells you about a Note, but you see nothing. Ask her which group she shared the Note with. Reinstalling the app will not help if your account is not part of that group.
A missing Note does not tell you why you are missing it, or whether someone intentionally left you out of the group.
What can you do if Instagram Notes are missing?
Android Authority lists, for missing Instagram Notes, the selected audience, an outdated app and temporary technical problems as possible causes. Therefore, check the following:
- Ask about a recent Note. Ask someone you know whether there is currently a Note shared with your account. This way, you are not checking something that may have already disappeared.
- Close Instagram and reopen the app. Then check your inbox again. This is a simple test, but it does not always solve the problem.
- Check whether you can update the app. Search for Instagram in your phone’s app store. Install an update if one is available. No update available? Continue to the next step.
- Test your connection. For example, open a regular web page. Does that not load either? Try another connection if one is available.
- Check other parts of Instagram. Do messages and profiles load? Write down exactly what is not working. If more parts are stuck, the issue may not be limited to Notes.
- Try again later. Does it work then? In that case, you do not need to change all kinds of settings right away.
You can also ask whether others are experiencing problems at that time. If more people notice the same thing, the issue may be more widespread. That still does not prove that there is a general outage.
Why can I see Instagram Notes on my other account?
Your accounts are not automatically part of the same recipient group. Can you see Notes on one account but not the other? First check whether you should be able to see the same Note on both accounts.

Should you be able to see the Note on both accounts, but is there still a difference? Mention that when you report the problem. The difference does not prove that your account is restricted. It is also not a reason to switch account types without further consideration: you do not know whether that will help.
When should you report missing Instagram Notes?
Report the problem if it keeps happening after these checks. In Instagram, look for help or an option to report a problem. The name and location may differ by app version.
Include this information in your report:
- Whether you are missing one Note or cannot see the entire feature.
- Since when you have noticed this.
- Which phone model and app version you are using, if you can find them.
- Which checks you have already completed.
