Why can’t you log in to TikTok?
The error message helps you decide where to start. You may want to take a screenshot of it. The table contains examples of messages and situations, not TikTok’s exact wording.

Can a friend log in? That does not immediately mean that your password is wrong. They may be using a different network or device. Therefore, test one thing at a time so you can see what makes a difference.
What should you check when you can’t log in to TikTok?
- Choose your usual login method. Do you normally log in with an email address, phone number or linked service? Use that method now too.
- Check what your phone enters automatically. It may be an old password or a different email address. Also check whether there are any accidental spaces.
- Test your internet connection. Open another website. Does that fail to load too? Then switch between Wi Fi and mobile data.
- Close TikTok completely and open the app again. Also check whether an update is ready in the official app store.
- Wait if TikTok asks you to. Do not keep trying again. Is there no waiting time in the message? Try again later.
Are you still logged in on another device that belongs to you? Do not log out there for now. You can use that access to check your account details.
TikTok does not recognise your password or email address
First check whether you are trying to open the right account. Search your own mailboxes for old messages from TikTok. This may help you find which email address you used, without immediately creating a new account.
Your display name does not have to be the same as your username. Unsure about your username? Ask someone you follow to view your profile and tell you that name.
TikTok describes password recovery by phone number or email. When logging in, look for ‘Forgot password’. The steps may differ between app versions.
Choose an email address or phone number that you can still access. Create a new password that you do not use anywhere else. Then also update the password saved by your phone.
Do you normally log in through a linked service? Use that same method. Can you no longer log in to that service either? Try to recover that account first. A different TikTok password will not give you access to that service.
No code received when logging in to TikTok
A verification code is a code that confirms you have access to your email address or phone number. First check where TikTok is sending the code. Do you recognise the partly hidden address or number? Requesting it again will not help much if you can no longer access it.
- Code by email: check your spam folder and search your mailbox for TikTok. Also check whether you can receive new messages.
- Code by SMS: check your mobile coverage and whether the correct SIM card is active. Pay particular attention to this if you use two numbers.
- Code arrives late: wait a moment before requesting a new one. Use the code from the latest message and watch for any expiry time.
- You see an error message: follow the instruction on the screen. Do not keep requesting a new code.
A verification code can give someone access to your account. Therefore, do not share the code with anyone offering help through a message. Enter it only during the recovery attempt that you started yourself.
TikTok account blocked, hacked or logged out automatically
You were logged out unexpectedly
Being logged out does not prove that someone has taken over your account. First try logging in as you normally do. Also check whether anything has changed without you doing it, such as your email address or messages on your profile.
You think someone else has access
Also secure the mailbox you use for recovery. Change a password that you have shared or used in multiple places.
Check the available security settings to see whether you recognise any unknown sessions. These are devices where your account is open.
Do not use recovery tools from unknown people and do not pay anyone who promises access. Also do not send a password, code or complete recovery details through private messages.
Your account is blocked
Read the reason in the message. A new password does not remove a block. Can you appeal? If so, follow that option. If you do not see it, ask for official help and include the exact message.
Are your videos getting fewer views? That is different from being unable to log in. Fewer views therefore do not explain this login problem.
Is the TikTok login problem caused by the app or an outage?
Does TikTok keep loading while other websites work? Try it on another device that belongs to you or open the official website in your browser. Type the address yourself. Do not use a login link from an unexpected message.
- Logging in works in the browser. That points more towards a problem with the app or your device.
- It only works on another network. Check your connection. Are you using a VPN, a service that redirects your internet traffic? If so, temporarily test without it.
- It does not work anywhere. Both an account problem and an outage are still possible. Check the error message again.
Reports from other users may point to an outage, but they do not prove one. Is your connection working properly and do you see only a general error message? Wait a moment and try again later. Do not immediately change all your account details.
When should you ask TikTok for help logging in?
Ask for official help if the checks do not help or if your contact details have changed without your permission. Have you lost access to your email address or phone number? First try these options:
- Check whether you can still log in through another linked service.
- Try to recover your mailbox through your email provider.
- Have you lost your SIM card? Ask your provider whether you can get your own number back.

Prepare this information before requesting help:

Without access to your linked details, recovery may be more difficult. TikTok must be able to assess whether the account belongs to you. You are therefore not guaranteed to regain access.
