Why can’t I comment on Instagram?

If you can’t comment on Instagram, it could be due to your connection, the app, your comment text or a restriction on your account. The settings of the person who posted the content may also play a role. First check whether commenting fails on one post or everywhere. Do you see “Action blocked”? Then do not try to send it again and read the entire message.

Choose what matches your situation below and read which steps you can try.

Where can’t you comment on Instagram?

First check exactly what happens. Is there no field where you can type a comment? Does sending remain stuck? Or do you get an error message? This helps determine which step is best to try.

Do you not see a message about a block? Then try at most one short, suitable comment on another post. For example, on a photo of a homemade cake: “What filling did you use?” Do not keep testing on various posts.

What do you notice? What should you check first?
Commenting fails everywhere The error message, your connection and possible account restrictions
Commenting only fails in the app The app, after you have also tried commenting in a browser
Commenting fails on one post Whether that post has a field where you can type a comment
Commenting fails on one account Whether it also fails on other posts from that account
Only one particular text does not work Links, account mentions and text you have posted more than once
Your comment appears and then disappears Whether your comment is still there after reloading

These checks can help you investigate, but they do not prove the cause. You can also read the Path Social’s explanation of why you cannot comment on Instagram Pay particular attention to the message on your own screen.

Is your app or internet connection preventing you from commenting?

Does your comment remain stuck without showing a message about a restriction? First check whether other pages and apps load normally. Then go through these steps:

  1. Switch connections. Switch from Wi Fi to mobile data, or the other way around. Keep your data allowance in mind.
  2. Close Instagram completely. Reopen the app and load the post again.
  3. Check for an update. Check your phone’s app store to see whether you can update Instagram.
  4. Try Instagram in your browser. Use the same account. Check whether commenting works there, but only do this if you do not see a message about a block.

Does commenting work in the browser? Then the app is the more likely cause. If it does not work there either, the app is less likely to be the only cause. There may also be an outage, but you cannot conclude that from one failed comment.

Do not delete the app immediately. If a step requires you to log in again, first make sure you know your password and can access your login codes.

Why does Instagram not post one particular comment?

Does a short comment work, but not your original text? Look at the difference. Is there a link in your text? Are you mentioning many accounts? Or have you posted the same sentence several times in quick succession?

Keep your original text for yourself. Then create one short version that relates to the post. Leave out an unnecessary link or a long series of account mentions. This helps you check whether the text is the cause. It is not intended to bypass filters.

Is that version also rejected? Stop trying. Changing one character at a time and sending it again will not help you understand what is going wrong.

There is no fixed number of comments per day that you can use as a safe limit. Therefore, follow Instagram’s message, not a number from an online list.

Why can’t you comment on one person’s post or on one particular post?

Can you comment on other posts? Then check whether the post where it fails has a comment field. It may say that comments are unavailable. The person who posted it may have restricted commenting.

Does commenting fail only on that one post, while it works on other posts by the same person? Then a setting on that post is more likely to be the cause than your entire account.

Does it fail on every post by that person? This could be due to their settings or a block. One failed comment alone does not prove that someone has blocked you.

Do you know the person well? Ask through the way you normally contact each other whether comments have been disabled. Do not use a second account to bypass a possible block.

Why does your Instagram comment disappear immediately?

If your comment appears briefly, that does not always mean sending succeeded. Reload the post once and check whether your comment is still there. Do not immediately send the same text again. You could leave duplicate comments.

A comment may also be hidden or removed. In 2022, Meta described features against unwanted comments, including Hidden Words. That means “hidden words”. Meta also mentioned warnings for potentially offensive comments.

You usually cannot tell from your screen whether this is caused by a filter, the poster or a technical problem. Can you still see your own comment? That does not prove that others see it in the same way.

Do not spell words differently to evade a filter. Do you want to say something necessary and appropriate? Make your text clear and respectful. If the comment is rejected again, leave it there.

What should you do if Instagram blocks commenting?

When you see “Action blocked”, Instagram is preventing commenting at that moment. The message does not always say why or how long it will last.

  1. Read the entire message. Take a screenshot and note when you received the message.
  2. Stop trying to send it again. Does it show an end time? Wait until it has passed. Without an end time, you do not know how long to wait.
  3. Check your account. Look in the settings for Account Status, if that option is available. Check whether it shows a restriction or explanation.
  4. Use the help offered in the message. Can you request a review and do you think a mistake was made? Use that option.

The names and options in the menu may differ by app version. Can’t you find Account Status? Search for that term in Instagram’s in app help. If no restriction appears on your account, that does not rule out every possible problem.

Are you using a service that automatically posts comments on your behalf? Stop that activity. A VPN, connecting Facebook or switching devices is not a reliable solution for an account restriction.

Can you also no longer follow anyone? Read why you cannot follow someone on Instagram. Note what does and does not work for a problem report.

When should you report a problem with Instagram comments?

Report the problem if commenting still does not work after the appropriate checks. Also do this if a stated end time has passed and the restriction remains. Look in Instagram for the help option to report a problem. Its location may differ by version.

Include the following in your report:

  • The exact error message, with a screenshot.
  • The date and time when it happened.
  • Whether commenting fails everywhere or only on one post or account.
  • Whether the problem occurs in the app, in the browser or in both.
  • Which checks you have already completed.

Do not share a password or login codes. Do not pay anyone who promises to remove the block immediately.

Can you comment again, but can’t share a post? That is a different problem. For that, read why you cannot repost on Instagram. Once your account is working as intended, you can explore our Instagram services to compare packages for followers and likes for your public profile or content.
