If you can’t comment on Instagram, it could be due to your connection, the app, your comment text or a restriction on your account. The settings of the person who posted the content may also play a role. First, check whether you can’t comment on one post or anywhere. Do you see “Action blocked”? Don’t try to send it again, and read the full message.

Where can’t you comment on Instagram?
First, look at exactly what happens. Don’t you see a field for typing a comment? Does sending remain stuck? Or do you get an error message? This will help you determine which step to try first.
If you don’t see a message about a block, try at most one short, relevant comment on another post. For example, on a photo of a homemade cake: “What filling did you use?” Don’t keep testing on various posts.

Is your app or internet preventing you from commenting?
Is your comment stuck and do you see no message about a restriction? First, check whether other pages and apps load properly. Then go through these steps:
- Switch connections. Switch from Wi Fi to mobile data, or vice versa. Keep an eye on your data allowance.
- Close Instagram completely. Reopen the app and load the post again.
- Check whether an update is available. Check your phone’s app store to see whether you can update Instagram.
- Try Instagram in your browser. Use the same account. Check whether commenting works there, but only do this if you don’t see a message about a block.
Can you comment in the browser? Then the app is more likely to be the cause. If you can’t comment there either, the app is less likely to be the only cause. There could also be an outage, but you can’t conclude that from one failed comment.
Don’t delete the app right away. Do you need to sign in again during one of the steps? Beforehand, check that you know your password and can access your login codes.
Why won’t Instagram post one particular comment?
Does a short comment work, but your original text doesn’t? Look at the difference. Does your text contain a link? Are you mentioning many accounts? Or have you posted the same sentence repeatedly in a short period?
Save your original text for yourself. Then create one short version that relates to the post. Leave out an unnecessary link or a long series of account mentions. This helps you check whether the text is the issue. It isn’t intended to bypass filters.
Is that version also rejected? Stop trying. Changing one character at a time and sending it again won’t help you understand what’s going wrong.
There is no fixed number of comments per day that you can use as a safe limit. Therefore, follow Instagram’s message, not a number from an online list.
Why can’t you comment on one person’s post or one post?
Can you comment on other posts? Check whether the post where it doesn’t work has a comment field. It may say that comments aren’t available. The person who posted it may have restricted comments.
Can you only not comment on that one post, while comments work on other posts from the same person? Then it is more likely to be a setting for that post than an issue with your entire account.
Can’t you comment on any post from that person? This could be due to their settings or a block. One failed comment alone does not prove that someone has blocked you.
Do you know the person well? Ask through the way you normally contact each other whether comments have been turned off. Don’t use a second account to bypass a possible block.

Why does your Instagram comment disappear immediately?
If your comment appears briefly, that doesn’t always mean it was sent successfully. Reload the post once and check whether your comment is still there. Don’t immediately send the same text again. You could leave duplicate comments.
A comment may also be hidden or removed. In 2022, Meta described features against unwanted comments, including Hidden Words. That means “hidden words”. Meta also mentioned warnings for potentially offensive comments.
From your screen, you usually can’t tell whether this is due to a filter, the person who posted it or a technical problem. Can you still see your own comment? That doesn’t prove that others see it the same way.
Don’t spell words differently to evade a filter. Do you want to say something necessary and relevant? Make your text clear and respectful. If the comment is rejected again, leave it at that.
What should you do if Instagram blocks commenting?
When you see “Action blocked”, Instagram is stopping you from commenting at that moment. The message doesn’t always say why or how long it will last.
- Read the entire message. Take a screenshot and note when you received the message.
- Stop trying to send it again. Is an end time shown? Wait until it has passed. Without an end time, you don’t know how long to wait.
- Check your account. Look in the settings for Account Status, if that option is available. Check whether it shows a restriction or explanation.
- Use the help offered in the message. Can you request a review and do you think a mistake was made? Use that option.
The names and options in the menu may differ by app version. Can’t you find Account Status? Search for that term in Instagram’s in app help. If no restriction appears on your account, that doesn’t rule out every possible problem.
Are you using a service that automatically posts comments on your behalf? Stop that activity. A VPN, connecting Facebook or switching devices is not a reliable solution for an account restriction.

When should you report a problem with Instagram comments?
Report the problem if commenting still doesn’t work after the appropriate checks. Also do so if a stated end time has passed and the restriction remains. Look in Instagram for the help option to report a problem. Its location may differ by version.
Include the following in your report:
- The exact error message, with a screenshot.
- The date and time when it happened.
- Whether commenting doesn’t work anywhere or only on one post or account.
- Whether the problem occurs in the app, in the browser or in both.
- Which checks you have already completed.
Don’t share a password or login codes. Don’t pay anyone who promises to remove the block immediately.
