The AP news agency reported the date as 17 July 2025, based on a statement from his granddaughter. This example is therefore not an overview of recent deaths. We make no statement here about the cause of death.
Are you looking for someone from a particular video? Note the full name or username. A photo, nickname or text such as ‘we will miss you’ alone is not enough to know who it is about.
How do you check news about a deceased TikTok star?
Do you see a memorial video? First open the original news report before sharing the video. Then check these points:
- Is it the right person? Compare the name and username. A celebrity who appears in many videos is not automatically a TikTok creator themselves.
- What date is shown? Pay attention to the difference between the date of death, the date of the news report and the date of the video.
- Who confirms the news? Check whether the article refers to a statement from the family or a representative. That is someone who speaks on behalf of the deceased person or family. An isolated comment under a video is not confirmation.
- Has the cause of death been confirmed? Only repeat it if a reliable source clearly states where the information comes from. Do not fill in yourself what may have happened.
Is the name or a link to a news report missing? Then search for the username together with the word ‘deceased’. Do you only find videos repeating one another? Then the news has not yet been confirmed.
Why are lists of deceased TikTok stars not always up to date?
When the word ‘recently’ is used, you need to know when an article was written. An old list may be shared again today. A new memorial video may also be about a death that happened longer ago.
A fictional example: today you see a video with the text ‘a year without you’. The video is new, but it is about a death from a year ago. Therefore, do not look only at the date above the post. Also look up the date of death.
Do you want to know who died this week? Check for each name whether the date of death falls within that week. Without that date, you do not know whether the report answers your question.
