Yes, your followers can sometimes see what you like on Instagram. They cannot open a complete list of your likes, but they can see your name on a post they are allowed to view. Even with a private account, your like on a public post may be visible. So first check whether the post you like is public.

When are your Instagram likes visible?
This mainly depends on who can view the post. Can someone open the photo or video? Then that person may also come across your like. They do not have to follow you to do so.

Suppose you like a public concert video. A colleague watches the same video and sees your name among the likes. That colleague sees that one like, not everything you have ever liked.
Can you hide Instagram likes from followers?
There is no general setting that hides all your likes everywhere. Hiding the number of likes is different from removing your own like. Choose what suits what you want to do:
- Remove a specific like: open the post and unlike it. Someone may already have seen the like before then.
- Hide your likes in the Friends tab: check whether your account has a setting for this. It applies only to this tab, not to every place on Instagram.
- Hide the number of likes below your own post: this only changes whether that number is shown. Your likes on other people’s posts remain unchanged.
Do you not want others to see that you like a particular public post? Then do not assume that your like will remain hidden.
What does the Friends tab show about your Instagram likes?
Meta described in its 2025 announcement the Friends tab: a tab featuring, among other things, Reels that friends like. Meta also announced settings to hide your likes and comments there.
This tab is not a complete list of everything you like. It is, however, an additional place where others may come across one of your likes.
Look in your account settings for an option to share your activity in the Friends tab. Read which likes and comments you can hide with it and from whom.
The availability and names of these settings may vary by account, country and app version. Cannot you see the option? That does not mean your likes are hidden. If you do not want to leave a like on a particular Reel, open that Reel and unlike it.
Does a private account make your Instagram likes private?
No. A private account mainly shields your own posts. In Meta’s explanation of private accounts from 2021 it states that people must follow you to see your posts, Stories and Reels.
That does not hide your likes on other people’s public posts. Shielding your own photos is therefore different from hiding which photos you like.
Do you want to shield your own posts? Look in your account settings for your account’s privacy settings and check whether your profile is private. Also check who you already follow. Existing followers can still see your posts when your account is private.

Where can you find your Instagram likes?
You can find your own likes in your activity overview. Look there for posts you have liked. The names and layout may differ by app version.
For example, you can look up an old photo and remove your like. Cannot you find the overview, but do you remember which post it was? Open that post directly.
Your followers cannot open this personal overview through your profile. They can still come across individual likes on the posts themselves.

Do my followers automatically see every like?
No. The fact that a like can be visible does not mean that all your followers see it. They may come across your like, for example, when they view the same post.
Can someone who does not follow me see my like?
Yes, this is possible on a public post. Someone does not have to follow you to see your like there.
Can I see which followers have viewed my like?
No, you do not receive an overview of people who have seen your like. So you cannot check whether your like went unnoticed.
Is my like secret when the number of likes is hidden?
No. A hidden number does not mean that your name among the likes is also hidden. So do not use this setting to keep your own likes secret.
