No, as far as is known, TikTok does not notify creators when someone records or screenshots ordinary videos, according to Android Authority. You capture the screen with your device without using TikTok’s download button. Do not automatically assume that private messages and other features work the same way.

The difference between a TikTok screen recording, screenshot and download
For example, do you want to save a cooking video? You can take a photo of the recipe or record part of the preparation. These are the differences:

Do you see a coloured dot, bar or notification on your phone while recording? Your device may use this to indicate that recording is in progress. That does not in itself mean that TikTok notifies the creator. So read exactly what the notification says.
Does TikTok notify someone when you screenshot a live stream, profile or private message?
With a live stream, profile, Story or private message, it is less certain whether a screenshot triggers a notification. The explanation for ordinary videos does not automatically apply to these features. So, in a private conversation, do not assume that your recording will remain invisible.
Do you want to check a particular feature? Arrange with someone to capture a harmless test image. Then ask that person to check whether a notification appears. This lets you test how it works for you at that moment. The result does not indicate how all versions of TikTok work.

TikTok views do not show who is making a screen recording
A view, like or comment does not prove that someone made a screen recording. You cannot infer from this whether that person also saved your video on their own phone.
The same applies to a visible profile visit, if that feature works in your situation. It does not show whether someone made a copy.
Turning off TikTok downloads does not block screen recordings
Through the TikTok video download settings you can manage who is allowed to download your posts. Look for the download setting in the app. Cannot find it? Then check TikTok’s guidance for your account instead of following an old explanation of the buttons.
According to Android Authority, turning off downloads does not block screen recordings. When downloading, you retrieve a file through TikTok. With a screen recording, your device records what happens on the screen.
Someone can also film your screen with another phone. So turning off downloads does not fully protect your videos from being copied.
How can you limit copying of your TikTok videos?
You cannot completely prevent copying once someone can view your video. You can choose what you show on screen and who may see it.
- Check your video before posting it. Look out for letters with your address, a school name on clothing or a recognisable house number.
- Limit who may see sensitive images. Review your account’s privacy choices. Do not post the images if having a lasting copy would be a problem for you.
- Consider a private account. Do you want to know how that account status works? Then read why your TikTok account is private.
- Keep your original file. This is useful if you want to find your own version later or compare it with a copy.
Suppose you want to post a video of your new room. First remove the delivery box with your address from view. This prevents your address from appearing in the video, even if someone makes a recording.
Are you allowed to save or share a TikTok screen recording?
The fact that the creator does not receive a notification does not mean that you may simply reuse a recording. Keeping it for yourself is different from reposting it or sharing it in a group chat.
Privacy and copyright may also be relevant in the Netherlands and Belgium. Ask for permission before distributing images of identifiable people, private conversations or someone else’s videos. Merely crediting the creator by name does not replace that permission.
Do you want to show someone a fun video? It is better to share the original post. That way, you do not have to circulate your own copy.
