Check which action you are trying to perform:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Tagging in a photo or reel:<\/strong> you link someone\u2019s account to your post.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mentioning with @:<\/strong> you put the username after an @ in, for example, a caption, comment or story.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Inviting someone to collaborate:<\/strong> you ask someone to appear as a creator alongside you on the post. This is also called a collab.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A regular tag does not automatically make someone a co creator. Does mentioning with @ work? Then an invitation to collaborate does not necessarily have to work as well.<\/p>\n<p>Manual approval is also separate from this. The recipient decides whether to allow a tag. This may explain why your post does not appear on the other person\u2019s profile. It does not explain why you cannot find a username.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"gebruikersnaam\">Can\u2019t find the account when tagging? Check the username<\/h2>\n<p>Search by username, not only by the name someone displays on their profile. Multiple people can have the same profile name.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open the profile through an earlier conversation or search for the account.<\/li>\n<li>Compare the username character by character with what you entered.<\/li>\n<li>Pay attention to dots, numbers and underscores. An underscore is the low line at the bottom of the line.<\/li>\n<li>Can\u2019t find the profile? Ask the person for their current username.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>A fictional example: you search for \u201cNoor\u201d, but the username is \u201cnoor.tekent\u201d. Using only the first name can lead you to completely different accounts.<\/p>\n<p>Can you open the correct profile, but not find it when tagging? Then check the settings below. An account not appearing in search results does not prove that you have been blocked.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"privacy\">Tagging a private account: check permission<\/h2>\n<p>You cannot tell whether tagging is possible just from the fact that an account is private. Is there a search field in the settings menu? Try \u201ctags\u201d or \u201cmentions\u201d. The names and location of these options may differ between app versions.<\/p>\n<p>Have the other person check the setting for what you are trying to do: tag or mention. Changing your own settings does not give you permission to tag someone else.<\/p>\n<h3>Your tag is on your post, but not on the other profile<\/h3>\n<p>First check your own post. Has the tag been added there? Then adding it worked and you do not need to try again.<\/p>\n<p>Meta explains on the page about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meta.com\/en-gb\/safety\/topics\/safety-basics\/tools\/privacy\/\">privacy and control over tags<\/a> that people can approve or reject tags before they appear.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, ask whether the recipient still needs to review your tag. Do not repost immediately if the tag is already there.<\/p>\n<h3>How to ask the other person to check the setting<\/h3>\n<p>For example, you could send: \u201cI want to tag you in our photo from Sunday, but it isn\u2019t working. Could you check whether you allow tags from me? It\u2019s also fine without a tag.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The other person does not need to make their entire account public for this. Just ask them to check the tag setting. That person decides whether to change anything.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"blokkade\">Unable to tag because of a block or deleted account<\/h2>\n<p>A block may explain why you cannot find or tag someone. But an unfindable profile may also have another cause. The username may have changed, the account may have been temporarily deactivated or the account may have been deleted.<\/p>\n<p>First check whether you have blocked the person yourself. One failed tag does not prove that someone has restricted or blocked you. Do not use another account to get around a possible block.<\/p>\n<p>Can you also not follow the person? Check whether the rest of Instagram loads normally. Then try one step at a time. This helps you identify which step makes a difference.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Save your text.<\/strong> Copy your caption before closing the app.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Close Instagram and open the app again.<\/strong> Then try adding the tag once.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Check your connection.<\/strong> If necessary, switch between Wi Fi and mobile data. Keep your data allowance in mind.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Check whether an update is available.<\/strong> Check your phone\u2019s official app store to see whether you can update Instagram.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Try again later.<\/strong> If other sections also fail to load, repeatedly trying again is unlikely to help.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Do not delete the app immediately. Follow that notification.
