Which TikTok link do you need?
A link is a web address, also called a URL. A profile link takes someone to an account. A video link takes someone to one specific video.

Suppose you made a video about potting a plant. Does a friend want to see exactly that explanation? Send the video link. Does your friend also want to view your other videos? Then your profile link is a better fit.

Copying your own TikTok profile link in the app
Start on your own profile. According to TikTok’s explanation of sharing you go via Profile to Share profile. For your QR code, TikTok calls Menu and My QR code.
- Open TikTok and go to your profile.
- Have multiple accounts? Check that you have the right account open.
- Find the option Share profile.
- Check the sharing options to see whether you can copy the link.
- Paste the address into a note or a message that you have not sent yet.

On your phone, you usually paste by holding a text field for a moment. Then choose Paste. Does different text appear instead of a TikTok address? Copy the link again. You may have copied something else after copying the link.
Copying someone else’s TikTok profile link
Open the profile you want to share. Looking at a video from that person? First go from that video to the account. This way, you share the profile and not just the video.
Check the username after the at sign. Do not rely only on the profile picture: different accounts can use the same image.
Look for a share option or a menu with sharing options on the profile. Is there an option to copy the link? Use it. If the option is missing, open the profile in a browser and copy the address from the address bar.
You can briefly explain what you are sharing with the link, for example: “This is the account with those recipes.” Then the recipient does not have to guess why you are sending it. The link does not change what that person is allowed to view on the account.
Copying a TikTok video link on your phone
Want to send one video? Use the share option for that video, not the profile menu.
- Open the video you want to share.
- Check that you have the right video. Also check who posted it.
- Find the share option for the video.
- Choose the option to copy the link, if it is available.
- Paste the link into a note or message. Open it to check it before sending it.
Copying a link is not the same as downloading a video. You are only saving the address, not your own copy of the video. If the video later disappears or is no longer visible to you, you may no longer be able to watch it through that link.
Keeping the link for yourself, for example to find a recipe again? Add a short description, such as “pasta with zucchini”. This lets you recognize the video later without first opening lots of separate addresses.
Copying your TikTok link on a computer or laptop
On a computer, you copy the web address from the address bar at the top of your browser. This is not the same as the search field on TikTok.
- Open TikTok in your browser.
- Go to the profile or video you want to share. Wait until the correct page is visible.
- Click in the address bar and select the full address.
- Copy with Ctrl + C on Windows or Command + C on a Mac.
- Paste the address into a note or message with Ctrl + V or Command + V.
For a video, check whether you opened it separately. Are you still viewing an overview with multiple posts? You may accidentally copy the address of that overview. Open the pasted link in a new tab and check which page appears.
You can also try this browser method on your phone if you cannot find an option to copy the link in the app.
Checking your TikTok link before sharing it
Open the pasted link yourself before sending it. Do not only check whether a TikTok page appears, but also whether it is the right one.
- Profile or video: does the link open what you want to share?
- Account: is the username after the at sign correct?
- Full address: did you paste the entire link, without extra words in it?
- Access: is the recipient allowed to view the profile or video?
- Location: is the link in the intended message or the correct link field?
For example, are you sharing your sports club’s account? Check that the club profile opens, not your personal account. For a video for an online shop, check that the intended product is shown. Putting your profile on your own website? Also check the link that is already there.
Can’t you tap the pasted address through Instagram? Then read the explanation of an Instagram link that does not work. An address can lead to the correct page but not be clickable where you paste it.
Why is your TikTok link not working?
Copy the link again from the profile or video first. Then open that new copy. This lets you check whether you previously pasted an old or incomplete address.

According to TikTok’s explanation of changing your username your username is part of your profile link. If you change that name, the link changes too.
Have you changed your username? Copy your new profile link and replace the old address on your website and other profiles. Do not assume that a previously sent link will automatically lead to your new address.
Frequently asked questions about your TikTok link
Is my TikTok link the same as my username?
No. Your username is the name after the at sign. Your profile link is the full web address. A fictional example is https://www.tiktok.com/@mijnplantenhoek . Only @mijnplantenhoek is not a full address. Copy the link from the profile so you do not have to type the address yourself.
Can I share my TikTok profile with a QR code?
Yes. Go to your profile and look in the menu for the option for your QR code. This is useful when someone is standing beside you and can scan the code. Sending a message remotely? Then a pasted link is often simpler. Also check the QR code to make sure you are sharing the right account.
Can everyone see my video as soon as I share the link?
No, a link does not provide additional access to restricted content. It still depends on who is allowed to view the account or video. Can someone not open your video? That does not necessarily mean that you copied the link incorrectly.
Can I see who opens my shared link?
