However, you can dismiss individual recommendations, use the Following view or check whether you can temporarily pause recommendations. First, open the options on a suggested post to see which choices are available. A video from an unfamiliar account is not always an ad. And a Reel is a short video, not another word for a recommendation.<\/p>\n<table>\n<thead>\n<tr>\n<th>What do you see?<\/th>\n<th>What is it?<\/th>\n<th>What should you look for?<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<\/thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>Suggested post<\/td>\n<td>A recommendation from Instagram, often from an account you do not follow.<\/td>\n<td>View the recommendation options on the post.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Ad<\/td>\n<td>A post that has been paid for, recognisable by a label such as Sponsored.<\/td>\n<td>The options for ads are slightly different from those for suggested posts.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Reel<\/td>\n<td>A short video from a followed account, an unfamiliar account or an advertiser.<\/td>\n<td>Check who the video is from and where you are seeing it.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Following<\/td>\n<td>A separate view with posts from accounts you follow.<\/td>\n<td>This is not your usual home screen with posts, also known as your feed.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>Do you mainly want to see photos and posts from people you know? Then check Following. Are you constantly getting cooking videos you are not interested in? Then view the options on one of those recommendations.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"pauzeren\">Pause suggested posts on Instagram for 30 days<\/h2>\n<p>In 2022, Meta described in its <a href=\"https:\/\/about.fb.com\/news\/2022\/08\/testing-ways-to-control-what-you-see-on-instagram\/\">explanation of recommendations<\/a> a 30 day pause and the Not interested option to receive fewer similar recommendations.<\/p>\n<p>The pause button may now be in a different place or may be missing. Therefore, check what is possible in your own app:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Find a suggested post in your usual feed.<\/strong> Check that it is not an ad.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Open the options on the post.<\/strong> Check whether you can hide or pause recommendations.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Read what the option does.<\/strong> Does it say that you will pause suggested posts for 30 days? Choose that option if you want to.<\/li>\n<li><strong>View the confirmation.<\/strong> Hiding one post is not the same as temporarily pausing suggested posts.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Do you not see an option to pause? Then go through these points:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Are you viewing the usual feed, or are you in Reels or Explore?<\/li>\n<li>Is it a recommendation, or a post from someone you follow?<\/li>\n<li>Is an update for Instagram available? You can update the app, but that does not guarantee that the option will appear.<\/li>\n<li>Do your account settings include information about recommendations or content preferences? These are preferences for what you see.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Accounts in the Netherlands and Belgium cannot assume that the pause button is available either. Based on this explanation, no general European off switch can be identified. Is the pause option missing? Then try Following or dismiss an individual post.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"niet-geinteresseerd\">Reduce Instagram recommendations with Not interested<\/h2>\n<p>Do you see <strong>Not interested<\/strong> on an unwanted recommendation? Choose that option. Are you then asked why you do not want to see the post? Choose only a reason that applies to you.<\/p>\n<p>Suppose you do not want to see videos about expensive watches. Dismiss one of those recommendations. You do not have to follow the account first or post a comment under the video.<\/p>\n<p>This tells Instagram what you would rather not see. It does not guarantee that an entire topic will be blocked. Therefore, do not judge the result only by the very next post.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"volgend\">View Instagram posts from followed accounts via Following<\/h2>\n<p>In the <a href=\"https:\/\/about.fb.com\/news\/2022\/03\/two-new-ways-to-control-your-instagram-feed\/\">2022 announcement of Following and Favourites<\/a> Meta described Following as a view with posts from followed accounts, in chronological order and without suggested posts.<\/p>\n<p>Search in your app for <strong>Following<\/strong>, or <strong>Following<\/strong> if you use Instagram in English. The location may vary. After choosing it, check that you are actually in this view.<\/p>\n<p>This is useful if you want to see what friends or favourite creators have posted. Are you returning to the usual feed? Then you are leaving this separate view. Following therefore does not turn off recommendations for your entire account.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"resetten\">Reset Instagram recommendations or filter words<\/h2>\n<p>Do you want to change more than one recommendation? Then check your settings to see which options you have. A fresh start for recommendations is different from hiding posts about a particular topic.<\/p>\n<h3>Reset recommendations<\/h3>\n<p>Do you see an option to reset recommended content, meaning to start again? Before confirming, read which parts of Instagram this applies to. Do not assume that the reset will also change ads or the accounts you follow.<\/p>\n<p>A reset does not turn off recommendations. You are choosing a fresh start, not a feed in which nothing will ever be recommended again.<\/p>\n<h3>Filter words with Hidden Words<\/h3>\n<p>With a word filter, always check <strong>where it works<\/strong>. A filter for words in comments or private messages does not necessarily work for recommended photos and videos.<\/p>\n<p>Use the filter for recommendations only if the explanation for the option expressly says so. For example, if you want to see less about a particular sports competition, enter the name of that competition instead of a broad word such as \u2018match\u2019.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"komen-terug\">Suggested Instagram posts keep coming back: what can you do?<\/h2>\n<p>First, check which choice you made earlier. This lets you work out why you are seeing recommendations again. Ads are not covered by the pause for suggested posts.<\/li>\n<li><strong>You are seeing recommendations in Reels or Explore.<\/strong> Check where your chosen setting applies.
